LASIK and PRK procedures are done through our Refractive Division, InSight LASIK & Refractive Group. The ideal LASIK patient is someone who is atleast 18 years in age with healthy corneas and a relatively stable prescription. People with certain medical conditions, or who may be pregnant or nursing may not be good candidates for LASIK. The best way to find out if you are a candidate for LASIK is to come into our office for a complimentary eye evaluation. At that time the doctor will answer any questions you may have and discuss your post-operative expectations.
The following refractive errors can be corrected by LASIK:
-
Nearsightedness (Myopia) - This occurs when the cornea is too curved or the eye is too long. Light passes through the eye but focuses before it reaches the retina, which causes distant objects to appear blurry.
-
Farsightedness (Hyperopia) - This occurs when the cornea is too flat. This causes light to focus at a point beyond the retina, resulting in blurry close vision and sometimes blurry distance vision as well.
-
Astigmatism - This occurs when the cornea is oval-shaped like a football. When light passes through the cornea, it focuses in more than one place relative to the retina, which causes images near or far to appear blurred or distorted.
If you are interested in LASIK, please call InSight today to set up your complimentary eye evaluation. 724.772.9600
