Peters is recognized as one of the nation's premier LASIK surgeons having performed over 30,000 LASIK/PRK procedures. He shares claims to several U.S. and International laser patents which has earned him a coveted membership in the Medical Honor Society.
Having completed his medical training, with honors, in 1985, Dr. Peters began his postgraduate work at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Between 1986 and 1988, he served in the Department of Ophthalmology at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, where he worked on a number of studies concerning visual systems and their effect on military pilots. This work also introduced him to several early studies on laser vision correction and provided an opportunity to work with the researcher who, in 1978, demonstrated the very first application of the excimer laser on corneal tissue. This close association resulted in both doctors sharing claims to several U.S. and international laser patents.
